Two injured in crash
Wednesday morning wreck

Two people were injured when a City of Smithville truck and a Pontiac Grand Am collided at the intersection of East Broad Street and Bright Hill Street Wednesday.

According to Sergeant Eric McCormick of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Jimmy Taylor, 60, an on-duty city employee was crossing the intersection going north in a 2007 Chevy Silverado when he struck a 2004 Pontiac driven by 38 year old Bonnie Harris in the driver’s side door. Taylor reportedly said that he was blinded by the sun, and did not see the Pontiac.

Ronald Harris, 28, a front seat passenger in the Grand Am, was not injured. Taylor and Bonnie Harris were transported to Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital by DeKalb EMS.

The Smithville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, and were able to extricate Bonnie Harris from the car after removing the driver’s door of the vehicle.
