Two new judges elected in 13th Judicial District

The 13th Judicial District will see two new judges, a new district attorney general, and a new public defender will take office on Sept. 1, while three incumbent judges will return to the bench after the election Thursday.

 

Republican Craig Fickling took down Democratic incumbent David Brady in the pulic defender's race.

 

Fickling defeated 24,726 to 14,612 in the district, with Fickling carrying DeKalb County 1,706 to 1,501.

 

Republican Bryant Dunaway won the attorney general's race, defeating Democrat Tony Craighead 26,438 to 15,034 in the district, and taking DeKalb County 1,778 to 1,710.

 

The Circuit Court Judge, Part II contest saw Republican Jonathan Young defeat Democrat Randall York 22,287 to 19,548 distrist-wide, and 1,706 to 1'703 in DeKalb County.

 

Republican Gary McKenzie won the Criminal Court Judge, Part I race, defeating Democratic opponent William Fred Roberson, Jr. McKenzie received 27,176 votes to13,086 for Robinson in the district, and carried DeKalb County 1,937 to 1,198.

 

Democratic Incumbent Chancellor Ronald Thurman was re-elected, defeating Republican J. Lee Burgess. District-wide, Thurman received 21,938 votes. Burgess had 18,994. In DeKalb County Thurman won 1,792 to 1,555.

 

Two Incumbent Judges were without opposition. Republican Criminal Court Judge Part II, David A. Patterson received 32,369 votes district-wide and 2,469 in DeKalb County. Democratic Circuit Court Judge Part I Amy Hollars got 26,049 votes district-wide and 2,231 in DeKalb County.

 

The district includes Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, and White counties.
