The unemployment rate in DeKalb County was at 8.7 percent for October.
The rate was down slightly from the 9.6 percent tally reported in September, but up slightly from 8.6 percent in October 2010.
The local labor force for DeKalb in October was 10,070.
A total of 9,190 people were employed, and 880 found themselves jobless.
DeKalb County ranked fifth lowest among the 14 counties of the Upper Cumberland region in the report, just behind Cannon County at 8 percent; Putnam and Macon, who both had an 8.2 percent rate; and Smith County, who reported an 8.6 percent rate.
Among the Upper Cumberland counties, Pickett had a 13.7 percent rate for October, Jackson was at 10.8 percent, White registered a 10.7 percent rate, Van Buren was at 10.6 percent, Warren was at 10.5, Clay at 10.3, Fentress at 10 percent, Cumberland came in at 9.3, and Overton- had a rate of 8.8 percent.
Non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for October showed that the rate increased in one county, decreased in 92 counties, and two counties did not change from the September rate.
Tennessee's unemployment rate for October fell to 9.6 percent, down from the state’s September revised rate of 9.8 percent.
The national rate for October was 9 percent, a decrease of 0.1 percent from the reported September rate.
Lincoln County came in with the lowest county unemployment rate in Tennessee, at 5.8 percent, down a bit from the September rate of 6.6 percent.
Williamson County was not far behind Lincoln, coming in at 6.3 percent, down from 7.0 percent in September.
Scott County had the state's highest unemployment rate at 18.1 percent in October, down from 19.5 percent the previous month, followed by Obion County at 15.6, down from 16.9 percent in September.
Knox County had the state's lowest major metropolitan rate of 6.7 percent, down from 7.7 percent the previous month.
Hamilton County was 7.8 percent, down from 8.6 percent in September.
Davidson County was 7.8 percent, down from 8.7 percent in September, and Shelby County was 10.1 percent, down from the September unemployment rate of 10.8 percent.
