Smithville police are investigating a case of vandalism of a city monument after a city employee noticed the bronze stars were missing from the Veterans Memorial Monument at Green Brook Park.“We are working a few possible leads,” said Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins.All six stars adorning the six-sided monument which honors those from DeKalb County who made the ultimate sacrifice from the Spanish American War to Operation Iraqi Freedom are missing.The monument is located just inside the east entrance to Green Brook Park along with two flanking cannons.If you have any information about the crime, Smithville police are interested in tips from the public.
