The sheriff’s department arrested three people after a neighbor reported suspicious visitors at an Early Bain Road home on June 2.
Shannon Lynn Newby, 47, 25-year-old Brandon Wayne Hutchings, both of Smithville, and 35-year-old Sherry Kay Malone of Watertown were all charged with theft of property over $1,000. Newby and Hutchings face aggravated burglary. charges as well.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Malone dropped Hutchings and Newby off at the scene, then drove away and parked her vehicle nearby. Investigators suspect that she intended to pick the men up after they had robbed the residence.
Newby and Hutchings then allegedly burglarized the home, taking a 32-inch television, a 42-inch television, nail guns, and other assorted tools.
A neighbor reportedly felt something was amiss when he spotted Malone parked in a driveway, and called authorities on his cell phone. Ray said the sheriff's department was dispatched to the scene, and found the stolen items outside near a garage.
Newby and Hutchings had apparently fled the scene.
After detectives questioned Malone and determed who the other suspects were, Newby was picked up walking on Robinson Road later that night, and Hutchings found on Dry Creek Road. Ray said they were both wet and had suffered scratches.
Blood was allegedly found inside the home, and it is believed that one or both of the men were injured while breaking in. DNA evidence was collected and sent to the crime lab.
Bond for Hutchings was set at $60,000. Newby's at $29,500, and Malone’s at $9,500. All three will appear in court on June 19.
Scott Lynn Sykes, 41, was charged with vandalism, theft over $1,000, and burglary on June 8.
The sheriff said Sykes entered a barn on Smith Road in Smithville and took two generators, a rake, broom, pitchfork, and a gas can. Sykes allegedly vandalized the barn causing damage totaling $1,845.
His bond was set at $26,000, and he will appear in court on June 19.
Jason Zeen Cripps, 36, was charged with domestic assault on June 5.
Ray said a deputy was dispatched to Cripps' residence to check out a domestic assault complaint. He reportedly spoke to Cripps’ wife, who told him that she came home to find Cripps passed out on the back porch.
She said her awoke and came inside, where an arguement began. Cripps allegedly grabbed his wife by the neck, slammed her into a wall, and choked her, causing red marks on her neck, then left the house. He was later arrested and charged with domestic assault.
His bond was set at $2,500 and he will appear in court on June 26.
Chrissy Michelle Evans, 40, was charged with domestic assault on June 3.
Ray said a deputy responding to a reported domestic incident spoke with Evans and her husband, and Evans was determined to have been the primary aggressor. She allegedly tried to keep her husband from leaving the home, andscratched him.
Her bond was set at $2,500 and she will appear in court on June 12.
Shauna Faye Stringer, 27, was charged with violation of bond conditions on June 7.
The sheriff said Stringer violated an order of protection by having personal contact with a man at his Tubbs Street home whom she had allegedly assaulted in the past. The order of protection became effective on May 30.
Her bond was set at $1,500 and she will appear in court on June 12.
Bruce Allen Morton, 45, was cited for simple possession of a Schedule II drug (Subutex) on June 7.
The sheriff said a deputy found a round white pill on Morton while placing him under arrest on a Cannon County warrant. The pill is believed to be Subutex.
He will appear in court on June 26
Randy Lee Beechler, 19, was cited for simple possession of a Schedule VI drug (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia on June 3.
Ray said that on a deputy sent to Ekles Heights in Liberty to check out a complaint of a strong odor coming from the back rooms of a residence found the odor to be marijuana. The deputy went to Beechler's apartment and received consent to search.
Beechler was allegedly found to be in possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and a bong. Beechler reportedly admitted that the items were his.
He will appear in court on June 19.
