A Dowelltown man who led a state trooper on a high-speed chase before crashing his Dodge Neon into a creek and attempting to ditch meth lab components faces numerous charges, according to the THP.Jesse Comer Harris, 33, who is already on parole as a violent offender, was charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, violation of the implied consent law for refusing a blood test, and tampering with evidence. Trooper Dewaine Jennings of the THP told the Review that the excitement began just after 7 p.m. when he stopped Harris' for driving in an erratic manner.Jennings said that he initially pulled Harris’ vehicle over just west of DeKalb Market because he appeared to be weaving. The trooper said that Harris stopped and allowed him to approach the vehicle and actually make eye contact before taking off again. After pursuing Harris west to the bottom of Snow Hill, where Sheriff Patrick Ray and a deputy awaited, Harris, apparently startled by the obstacle, drove off the roadway, across a small field, and directly into a creek, almost overturning the vehicle. He then exited the car and fled on foot, with lawmen chasing him up the creekbed and into a wooded area before officers found him hiding in tall weeds.Jennings said that Harris was found in the act of attempting to eat a bag of marijuana.Jennings said a search also revealed that Harris had attempted to discard the components of a meth lab during his run.Harris was apparently uninjured and refused medical treatment. His bond totals $85,000 and he will appear in court on Feb. 21.
