A former Smithvillian and current Williamson County firefighter suffered a rattlesnake bite while hiking last weekend, and is recovering in Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Off-Duty Spring Hill Fire Department Engineer Kyle Watson was reportedly hiking a Maury County trail with his wife and children Sunday when officials say a snake bit him several times on his finger. Watson apparently fell unconscious after being bitten, striking his head on a rock as he dropped.
According to rescue officials, it took crews more than an hour to retrieve Watson from the trail. He was airlifted to Vanderbilt, where he was listed in intensive care Tuesday morning.
