A man caught downloading child porn has been sentenced to four years in prison and will be listed on the state’s sex offender registery.
The man, Roy Junior Wilkey, 51, entered a guilty plea in circuit court to the charge of sexual exploitation of a minor and was given a four-year sentence to serve in the state penitentiary. He will also have to list himself on the state’s sex offender registry which is a searchable database open to the public which keeps track of convicted sex offenders once they are released from incarceration.
He was arrested last June when Smithville police were called to a residence on Bright Hill Road. When they arrived they found that Wilkey had been locked out of the house by some juvenile females. Police asked why they locked the door and one of the girls alleged Wilkey had taken a picture of her while she was getting out of the shower.
Police were granted permission to look at Wilkey’s phone to see if there was an indecent picture of the girl. While they found no pictures of the girl in question they did find a cache of child pornography which they learned he had downloaded from the internet. A close look at his phone revealed more than 50 images of minor engaging in sexual activity.
