A 36-year-old Smithville woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and vandalism Sunday.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Amanda Lynette Pedigo Davis was taken into custody after allegedly firing shots from a handgun into another woman’s vehicle.
Davis allegedly pointed the gun at the woman and told her that she would die if she didn’t leave the premises. Davis then allegedly fired several shots outside the residence, some of which penetrated the 2016 Chevy Equinox and exited in close proximity to neighbor’s homes.
Damage to the Equinox was estimated at $10,000.
Her bond totals $20,000 and she will appear in court on June 30.
Meanwhile, an investigation into a string of burglaries and thefts in the Cove Hollow Road area has resulted in a McMinnville man being taken into custody and charged with three counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of theft of property, and two counts of vandalism.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said that Dakota James Stith, 23, was taken into custody on May 11. Stith is accused of either committing vandalism or burglary and theft at three separate homes.
At one location, Stith allegedly cut a back screen door, broke a Samsung surveillance camera system, and broke parts to a Rokon motorcycle, causing $370 in damage. At a second home, Stith allegedly entered the residence by forcing his way through the front door, breaking a door frame valued at $250. He allegedly took items including a 20-gauge shotgun, 32 inch flat screen TV, Xbox 360, fishing tackle, jewelry, plastic storage container, food, jump box, and assorted power tools, valued at $2,125 total.
At a third location, Stith allegedly entered a home through an unlocked door and took items including a 20-gauge shotgun, .22-caliber rifle, .38-caliber Derringer pistol, a 2013 Polaris Ranger, and some change.
His bond was set at $45,000, and he will appear in court on June 16.
David Everette Phillips, 44, was charged with filing a false report on June 7.
The sheriff said that two deputies went to a woman’s home to serve an arrest warrant, and while knocking on the door, the officers noticed two persons inside the home moving toward a back room. One of them appeared to be the woman they were looking for.
Phillips answered the door and told them the woman was not there, but the deputies watched the house for a brief period, observing the woman through a window. They reportedly returned to the door and knocked again.
Phillips answered, and after the officers told Phillips they knew the woman was there, she came out and was placed under arrest. When asked by the officers why he gave a false statement, Phillips allegedly said “I can’t give people up like that.” The woman reportedly said that the reason she didn’t come to the door was because she was scared.
His bond was set at $2,500 and he will appear in court on July 21.
Jeremy Patrick Bandy, 38, of Sparta is charged with failure to appear.
Ray said that Bandy failed to appear at the sheriff’s office to serve his court ordered weekend sentence in July 2015.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on June 16.
Justin Glynn Vandergriff, 24, of Lee Braswell Road, Smithville was charged with driving under the influence and cited for possession of a Schedule VI drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of the implied consent law, and violation of the light law on June 11.
The sheriff said a deputy stopped a white Chevrolet truck because the vehicles passenger side brake light which was not working. The officer found the driver to be Vandergriff, who had slow motor skills and glossy bloodshot eyes.
When asked if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Vandergriff said he had smoked marijuana. He submitted to but performed poorly on field sobriety tasks. An inventory of Vandergriff’s truck allegedly revealed a marijuana grinder, a pack of rolling papers, and a cigarette pack containing three marijuana roaches.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on July 21.
Wesley Lynn Chandler, 39, was charged with domestic assault on June 11.
Ray said that Chandler allegedly assaulted his girlfriend by attacking and throwing her to the floor, causing scratch marks to her arms. The woman said she also feared that Chandler was going to beat her.
His bond was set at $2,500, and he will appear in court on June 23.
