A 30-year-old woman has been charged with child abuse or neglect after she was reportedly found passed out in a hot car with a two year old.

Sheriff Patrick Ray said that Stacey Lee Woods was arrested after a deputy responding to a report of a woman asleep with a child in the vehicle Short Mountain Highway found woods, who showed signs of intoxication including slurred speech and unsteadiness, in the vehicle. Woods reportedly submitted to field sobriety tasks and performed poorly, and admitted to taking Xanax and Zoloft.

Ray said all the windows on the vehicle were closed except for the driver’s window, which was open about an inch. The vehicle was not running, and the outside temperature was around 81 degrees. After a full minute of banging on the window the woman awoke and exited the vehicle. There was a two-year-old boy in the back seat. The officer determined that her actions placed the life of the child in danger.

Her bond is $7,500, and her court date is June 8.

Brian Christopher Wigley, 34, was charged with domestic assault on May 10.

The sheriff said a detective responding to a domestic call on Upper Helton Road made contact with a female who stated that she had taken another person to a doctor’s appointment, and when she returned home she noticed that the door was open. She walked to the door and called out, and Wigley allegedly came to the door screaming and cursing her.

He reportedly told the woman that he would rather knock her teeth down her throat than to look at her. Due to Wrigley’s violent tendencies in the past, Ray said this caused the woman to feel intimidated and fear bodily harm.

His bond is $2,500, and his court date is May 18.
