A woman faces domestic assault charges after she slapped her husband as he was trying to stop her from committing suicide.

The woman, Rebecca Joy Larue, 42, of Alexandria will appear in court on April 5 to answer to the charge of domestic assault for the incident.

According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, deputies went to the Larue home on Hickman Road to investigate a report that someone had taken an overdose of pills. When they arrived, they found out no one had overdosed but that she had assaulted her husband who had intervened in her apparent suicide attempt.

“It was discovered that Mrs. Larue did assault her husband while he was trying to prevent her from taking all of her medication,” the sheriff said, noting Larue scratched and slapped her husband while he was trying to stop her.

Mrs. Larue admitted to assaulting her husband when questioned.
