A 43-year-old Smithville woman was arrested on June 8 after the stranger she allegedly approached in an attempt to sell drugs turned out to be an off-duty sheriff's department drug detective.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Stephanie Marie Jagneaux was charged with sale and delivery of a Schedule II drug (Percocet), sale and delivery of a Schedule IV drug (Xanax), and sale and delivery in a drug free zone. She reportedly approached the detective, who she did not know, on June 7 and asked if he would like to buy some pills. The lawman, who also didn't know Jagneaux, set up a meeting with her early on the morning of June 8 in the parking lot of Peking Restaurant on Congress Boulevard at a location within 1,000 feet of Smithville Elementary School.
She allegedly sold the detective three Percocet and two Xanax pills, and deputies immediately appeared and arrested the hapless drug dealer.
Her bonds total $75,000, and she will appear in court on Aug. 13.
Meanwhile, an inmate at the jail was been charged with assaulting a correctional officer on June 8.
The sheriff said that Michael Brandon Redman, 30, of McMinnville covered a surveillance camera after he was placed in the holding tank following an altercation inside the jail annex.
When Redman refused to uncover the camera an officer entered the cell and the prisoner reportedly grabbed him from behind, leaving scratches on his neck.
His bond was set at $2,500, and he will appear in court on June 18.
Travis Lee Baisden, 28, was charged with domestic assault on June 4.
Ray said a deputy was dispatched to Eagle Creek Road on a physical domestic complaint spoke with Baisden's mother and another man, who both said that Baisden had assaulted her.
According to the mother, she and Baisden were arguing, and after he spat in her face three times, she grabbed him by the throat and a fight began. The woman had several marks and bruises on her head and body. Baisden was determined to have been the primary aggressor and he was placed under arrest.
His bond was set at $2,500, and he will appear in court on June 11.
Forest Andrew Mathias, 21, of McMinnville was charged with a third offense of driving on a suspended license on June 1.
Ray said a deputy stopped a Mathias’ car for a light law violation and the man could not produce a driver license. A computer check confirmed that his license was suspended for a truancy law violation in March 2011. Mathias reportedly has two previous violations for driving on a suspended license in DeKalb County.
His bond was set at $2,000, and he will appear in court on Aug. 27.
Jim Thomas Flesher, III, 19, was charged with public intoxication on June 3.
The sheriff said a deputy dispatched to Redman Road on a public disturbance complaint found Flesher hiding in the woods. The man reportedly had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person, was staggering while walking, and his speech was slurred.
Flesher was placed under arrest for public intoxication.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on June 18.
Nathan Joe Trapp, 32, was charged with driving under the influence and cited for violation of the implied consent law and driving on roadways laned for travel on June 6.
The sheriff said a deputy stopped Trapp’s vehicle traveling east on Highway 70 for a traffic violation and found his speech to be slurred. The man allegedly admitted to having taken Suboxone. Trapp submitted to, and performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. He refused to take a blood test.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on Aug. 27.
