A Sparta woman was been charged with public intoxication and assault after she allegedly stuck her tongue in a six-month-old child’s mouth at the Ragland Bottom Day Use Area on April 29.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Vickie Lenae Alvis, 46, was arrested after a deputy responded to the Ragland Bottom Day Use Area where someone was reportedly causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to Alvis, who was allegedly very unsteady on her feet, and had a strong odor of alcohol on her person and slurred speech.
She was placed under arrest for her safety and that of the public. The officer soon learned of another complaint, and a detective was assigned to the case and allegedly found that Alvis had assaulted a six-month-old by putting her tongue in the child’s mouth. The child’s mother reportedly witnessed the assault.
Alvis bond is $3,000, and her court date is May 18.
Shannon Dawn Stanick, 40, was charged with driving under the influence on April 29.
Ray said a deputy was dispatched to a possible intoxicated driver in-bound from Cookeville Highway. After receiving a description, the officer spotted the vehicle at Village Market with a woman slumped over behind the steering wheel.
When speaking with the driver, Stanick, he reportedly noticed that her speech was very slurred and she did not know where she was. Stanick submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. She also submitted to a blood alcohol test. Ray said Stanick admitted to having taken valium.
Edward Dale Caldwell, 51, was charged with public intoxication on April 29.
The sheriff said an officer dispatched to Fishlipz Bar & Grill on Jefferson Road due to an intoxicated man on the premises found Caldwell lying in the grass near the parking lot. Caldwell allegedly had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person, his eyes were bloodshot and watery, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet.
Caldwell initially submitted to field sobriety tasks but refused to take any more after the first task. He was placed in custody for his safety and that of the public.
His bond is $1,500 and his court date is May 11.
