A 35-year-old local woman is in hot water after City police allegedly found her in possession of drugs and a gun at DeKalb Health Department.
Maranda Michelle Murphy was arrested on June 23 and charged with simple possession of Schedule III, IV drugs and methamphetamine. Officers called to the health department to investigate reports of a possible domestic incident reportedly made contact with Murphy, who was evasive with her identity and appeared to be trying to hide her purse from the lawmen’s sight.
An officer observed the handle of what he knew to be a gun in her purse. Police recovered the weapon, cleared and secured it, and upon getting consent to search, police found two baggies with a crystallized substance weighing approximately three grams, believed to be methamphetamine, inside her vehicle, along with pills believed to be Xanax and Hydrocodone.
Her bond was set at $4,500, and she will appear in court on July 21.
Meanwhile, 44-year-old Marina G. Cornett was cited on 6/28/16 for simple possession of Schedule VI drug, and 54-year-old Jackie Mark Mullican was cited for drug paraphernalia on June 28.
While conducting a probation search at Mullican's residence, a small baggie of approximately five grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was found on the couch where Cornett was sitting. Three burnt spoons with residue and a hypodermic needle believed to be use for illegal use were found in Mullican's bathroom.
Both will appear in court on July 21.
Johnny Darrell Murphy 45, was arrested on 6/20/16 for assault on June 20.
Murphy allegedly punched the victim on the left side of the face, leaving physical evidence of an open wound. Upon investigation of the incident, Murphy was taken into custody.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on July 14.
Jessica Hope Elkins, 27, was arrested for theft and simple possession of Schedule II, IV and V drugs on June 23.
Police were reportedly informed of a theft that occurred earlier in the day, and upon arrival at Elkins residence they located medication that was taken from the victim in her purse.
Her bond was set at $9,500.
David Anthony Watkins, 57, was arrested for public intoxication on June 25.
Police responded to Saint Thomas DeKalb for a belligerent patient. Upon Watkins release, police attempted to contact family members multiple times to pick him up, but could not find anyone willing to do so. Due to Watkins level of intoxication, he was then arrested and taken into custody.
His bond was set at $1,000.
Stephanie Sue Summers, 31, was cited for shoplifting at Dollar General on June 16. Summers was allegedly seen placing items in her purse by store employees with the intent to deprive the store of its property.
She will appear in court on July 17.
Mindy D. Reed, 27, was cited for shoplifting at Dollar General on June 28. A store employee allegedly told police that Reed was observed putting items in her purse. Upon exiting the store, a search of Reeds purse revealed unpaid store property.
She will appear in court on July 14.
