A Woodbury resident is accused of aggravated assault after he allegedly shot at his family in a drunken rage Sunday.
Joshua Lorne Tate faces five counts of aggravated assault, stop frisk halt arrest, assault, and possession of a handgun while under the influence after he allegedly shot at family members with an AR 15 semi-automatic rifle and a Glock 21 semi-automatic handgun during an argument. According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, no one was hit when the bullets started flying, but he said Tate endangered the lives of his wife, step daughter, brother-in-law, his two sons and a deputy.
Tate, his wife, and step-daughter reportedly got into an argument, and the victims ran and hid under a bridge when Tate began firing an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in their direction. Tate’s brother- in- law and his two sons soon drove up, and Tate allegedly pulled out a Glock 21 semi-automatic handgun and began firing at them as they sat in their vehicle. He reportedly continued to shoot after they started backing down the driveway to get away. The gunshots reportedly hit the vehicle’s front end and the hood at least five times.
A call was placed to 911, and Ray said deputies arrived on the scene and found Tate to be uncooperative. The sheriff said Tate disobeyed officer’s commands to stop and halt, and even advanced toward a deputy in a threatening manner.
Tate was forcibly taken into custody, and officers found a loaded AR-15 rifle on the passenger seat of his automobile. The Glock handgun was also recovered.
