A 72-year-old Woodbury woman has died after she was severely injured in a one-car accident on Short Mountain Highway Wednesday.According to the THP, Martha J. Thomason expired at Vanderbilt University Medical Center some time after being airlifted from the scene of the crash. The accident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on Highway 146 between the Game Ridge and Whorton Springs Roads.Trooper Jeremy Wilhite of the Tennessee Highway Patrol told the Review that Thomason apparently left the roadway on the right side while traveling south on Short Mountain Highway in a 2004 Honda CRV.After leaving the highway, the vehicle struck an earthen embankment and overturned, eventually coming to rest on its wheels in a field several hundred feet away from the point it left the road. The DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department's Rescue Team were on the scene to extricate Thomason from the badly damaged vehicle, and DeKalb EMS treated her until the arrival of an Air Evac helicopter. Also assisting at the scene were members of the fire department’s Short Mountain Highway Station and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department.
