York only candidate for Alexandria mayors seat

Jim H. York, Jr., the sole mayoral candidate in Alexandria, is set to become mayor after the the Alexandria Municipal Election tomorrow, Sept. 5.York will take over from Ria Baker, the current mayor, who did not seek the office again.The mayor will serve a four-year term. Three aldermen offices are up for election to four-year terms in Alexandria as well, but only one candidate, Pat Jackson, has qualified to run for the seat.The Mayor and Board of Aldermen will most likely make appointments to fill the two vacant aldermen positions.Voting will be held tomorrow from 8 a.m.-7p.m. at the Kenneth Sandlin Center at the fairgrounds.The uncontested election will be done by paper ballot.
