FFA Plant Sale

The DeKalb County FFA will have a plant sale May 1-3, 2024 at the greenhouse behind the DeKalb County High School. They will have flower and vegetable plants. Come out and purchase and support the Future Farmers of America.

 

Smithville Elementary Kindergarten Registration, May 3

Smithville Elementary will hold Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the County Complex. Please bring COPIES of the following documents to Registration:

Certified copy of Birth Certificate

Current, up-to-date, physical examination and immunization record. (These must be on a Tennessee Department of Health Certificate of Immunization, which can be obtained from your doctor’s office or the Health Department).

Proof of residency for DeKalb County (gas bill, electric bill).

Your child will need to attend. He/She will be assessed on this day.

Children who register to attend Kindergarten must turn 5 years old on or before August 16, 2024.

 

Carmel Center Mass Services

The Carmel Center for Spirituality, Liberty, is now celebrating Catholic Mass each weekday at 8 a.m. and Sundays at 9a.m. The Center is located at 610 Bluff Road, for more information contact Father James Panackal, director, 615-536-5177.

 

FCE Meetings

The FCE will be meeting the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the DeKalb County Complex in the Motlow Conference room. Everyone is invited to attend.

 

Samaritan Purse Christmas Child, Anabel Rosario Fermin, April 25

Allen’s Chapel Church will have a special guest Anabel Rosario Fermin on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 3 p.m. The church is located on 1037 Coconut Ridge rd., Smithville, TN 37166. Anabel grew up in a Christ-centered, pastor’s family in the Dominican Republic. She was taught that God is faithful. When Anabel was around 8-10 years old, she received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. Ten years after receiving her shoebox gift, she lost her father, mother, and older sister in a tragic accident. Even through her grief, she felt the Lord reminding her that He was still faithful. Today Anabel lives in Flower Mound, Texas, and works as a radio personality. Please join us for a special time of Anabel sharing her testimony.

 

Smithville Elementary School Pre-K Registration

Pre-K Registration forms for the 2024-25 school year can be picked up on Friday, May 3 from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Smithville Elementary. This will be done in a drive-through fashion. Completed registration paperwork will need to be returned to Michelle Burklow at the Board of Education office. COPIES of the following documents must be submitted with your registration forms in order for it to be complete:

- Certified copy of birth certificate
- social security card (requested but not required)
- Current, up-to-date, physical examination and immunization record (These must be on a Tennessee Department of Health Certificate of Immunization, which can be obtained from your doctor's office or the Health Department)
- Proof of residency for DeKalb County (i.e. gas/electric bill)

*First priority will be given to children that are 4 years old on or before August 15, 2024 and meet income eligibility.

Commodity Distribution, April 25

The Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency (UCHRFA) will hold a commodities distribution for DeKalb County on Thursday, April 25 from 9am to 11am at the DeKalb County UCHRA office. Sign-up will be available at the distribution site. The Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, sec, color, national origin, religion, or disability in admission to, access to, or operation of its programs, services, or activities. This project is funded under a Grant contract with the State of Tennessee.

DCHS Senior Awards Night May 7

Scholarships and other awards will be presented to members of the Class of 2024 at DeKalb County High School during the annual Senior Awards program Tuesday night, May 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the DCHS gymnasium.

DeKalb Schools Art Exhibit May 18

The DeKalb County Schools Art Exhibit will be Saturday, May 18 featuring works of local art students. The annual event, sponsored by the Smithville Study Club, will be held from 1-3 p.m. at the DeKalb County Complex at 712 South Congress Boulevard. The public is invited to attend.

“The Art Exhibit features art from any student from five years of age and older in our county including home schooled students. Two students will be chosen to receive the “People’s Choice” and “Best of Show” awards,” said Art Chair Susan Hinton.

DeKalb County School Calendar for 2023-24

The school calendar is set for the 2023-24 year.

The last day of school will be May 21, 2024. May 20 will be an abbreviated day.

Report cards will be issued at all schools on May 21.
