A local man lost his life last Tuesday due to injuries from a head-on collision that happened on Highway 70 East. Thirty-two year-old Brandon Hutchings succumbed to his injuries after being flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

According to Trooper Jonathan Burke of the THP, Hutchings was traveling west on Highway 70 in a 2008 Chevy HHR when he crossed into the path of a 2004 Ford Ranger driven by Lauren Pavone, 28, of Smithville. The force of the crash caused the Ranger to roll over on its side and the Chevy came to rest off the highway.

DeKalb EMS transported Hutchings to the Midway Fire Station where a landing zone was set up and a helicopter ambulance landed. He was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville where he died.

Pavone was taken to Ascension St. Thomas DeKalb by EMS.
