Two people were injured Monday afternoon in a crash on Sparta Highway near Sligo. According to Highway Patrolman Bobby Johnson, Rachel Acker, 41, of Sparta was traveling west in a Buick Century when she lost control while negotiating a curve on the rain-slick highway. Her car then spun and entered the path of Breanna Tarpley, 23, of Auburntown who was heading in the opposite direction in a Ford Fiesta. Both drivers, who were the lone occupants of their vehicles, were transported to St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital for treatment of noncritical injuries. Acker was cited for failure to exercise due care.
