Funeral services Melvin Reeder, 71, of Smithville were held March 14 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bro. Garry McBride officiated, with burial following in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

 

He passed away March 11 at his residence.

 

He was born February 3, 1944 to the late Julius and Vennie Mai Caldwell Reeder.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lindsay Reeder; 14 brothers and sisters.

 

He was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church, attended The Baptist Tabernacle, and was a retired nursery worker.

 

Melvin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Christine Reeder of Smithville; two children, Charlie (Liz) Reeder of Putnam County, Regena Houk and Reggie Truitt of Smithville; two granddaughters, Amanda (Jeff) Rippy and Whitney Houk Whitney Houk (Ana Armendariz); two great-granddaughters, Sadie Mae and Charlie Ann Rippy; two adopted-at-heart great-grandchildren, MaKaylee and Cora Winchester; three sisters, Hazel Bowman of Carthage, Susie Vandergriff of Smithville, and Sally Tims of Cookeville; several nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Misty Dedmon also survive.

 

Pallbearers included; Doc Thomas, Bug Reeder, Joe Reeder, Jeff Rippy, Donald Arnold, and Charlie Tramel.

 

Honorary Pallbearers included; Dennis Reeder, and Bobby Vandergriff.

 

DeKalb Funeral Chapel, Smithville, was in charge of the arrangements
