The DeKalb County High School Tigers Baseball Team was on the diamond last week, getting some tough losses. According to Head Coach Tracy Slone, they were games DeKalb should have won.
On April 14, the Tigers were on the road taking on Macon County, where, according to Slone, the team had a terrible day. DeKalb lost 5-2.
Aaron Patterson went 4-4 with three doubles and one RBI, while Devin Summers was 2-4 with a double. Sam McMillen went 1-4, John Roller 1-3, Nick Parsley 1-2, and Ty Curtis was 1-3. The losing pitcher was Steven Jennings.
Macon County had eight hits, while the Tigers had 10. The difference was errors, with DeKalb making five. "It was worst game we played all year," Coach Slone said.
The next match-up with Macon would have a better outcome. The game, originally scheduled at home for April 15, was rescheduled for the following day due to snow and cold temperatures. This time the Tigers would come away with a 3-0 victory.
Summers was the winning pitcher, striking out 11 hitters, walking two, and giving up only one hit. Hitters for the Tigers  were Jennings, who went 1-4, Patterson 1-3 with two RBIs, Summers 1-3, Luke Boss 1-3, Jacob Self 1-2, Nick Parsley 1-3 with an RBI,  and Curtis 2-3.
On April 17, the Tigers were again at home, this time against Friendship Christian. The game would not turn out the way DeKalb had hoped, falling 12-7 in 12 innings.
The losing pitcher was Steven Page, while the hitters were Jennings, who went 1-5, Patterson 2-5, Roller 2-6, Boss 1-5, Page 2-4, and Parsley 1-5.
On April 19, the Tigers were back on the road, this time in Grundy County. There DeKalb fell 2-1 with errors costing a victory.
A.J. Mooneyham was the losing pitcher, despite giving up only one hit and no earned runs. "Mooneyham pitched a great game, Coach Slone said. "He has been one of our best pitchers this year. He has pitched against some tough teams and we have played poor defense behind him. We made some big errors that cost us the game.
Hitters in the game were Jennings, who was 2-3, Patterson 1-3 with a RBI, and Curtis 1-2.
"We had a chance to win all the games we lost but our defense has let us down," Slone continued. "We have played terrible defense of late. We are 11-11 overall and 6-4 in district play."
