Football Community Night will mark the final tune-up for the 2018 DeKalb County Tigers this Friday as they play host to state powerhouse Friendship Christian.
“Hopefully this will be an event everybody will want to come to,” said Tiger Head Coach Steve Trapp, noting it is the same night as the Ford Drive event that helps the high school gridiron team. The Ford Drive event to benefit the high school football team will be held at the high school beginning at 4 p.m., Aug. 3 followed by the Tiger scrimmage. The Quarterback Club gets $20 from Ford for every test drive up to $6,000. You must be 18 or older to participate and have a valid driver license with you.
“That’s been really good for our program,” Trapp said of the Ford Drive event, noting it will be paired this year with BBQ plates fans can buy and enjoy that evening. “It makes for a very good night for financial support for our program and just bringing people together. One big thing we want our program to be about is effecting people and when you get people together that’s what you get the opportunity to do.”
The game against Friendship will be a controlled scrimmage where both teams will work on various parts of their offense and defense. Trapp said he enjoys scrimmaging the two-time state champions.
“We’ve had our weeks where we’ve got them and they’ve had their weeks where they’ve got us,” the coach said. “They are good people, great players, good competition.
Kickoff with Friendship Christian is at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6.
