People came to the DeKalb County High School last Saturday by the hundreds, not to a class or sporting event, but to drive some new cars and raise money for a local ball team.

Florence & White Ford in Smithville and the Ford Motor Company once again held their "Ford Drive 4 UR School" event, raising funds for the DCHS Tigerette Softball Team. For every test-drive taken, the Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to the school program, adding needed funds to the softball program.

"We're getting the community involved," Jimmy White of Florence & White Ford told the Smithville Review. Coach Fish did a great job with the girls getting all these folks to come out and take test drives in a car. Ford pitches in some money to donate to the school for their softball team."

When asked how much money the event might raise, White said it might be more than expected but the test drivers need to do their part. "We're trying to get $8,000. For that we have to have 300 people get registered and do their post survey. We've had over 500 people come out and test drive. We need to make sure they get on their phones and they complete their part of the survey. The whole thing has to be completed."

Tigerette Head Coach Danny Fish was also on hand at the event and said the event was working out great. "This is the second time that we've done it," he told the Review. "The first time, all the money went towards renovations and improvements at Danny Bond Field. This year will be no different. We've bought a couple of new uniforms that this money will help pay for."

Coach Fish also praised the community support and the sponsorship. "It's just great to have the community behind you and to have the sponsorship from Florence & White. They've really helped us out every time we've needed something. It's special for them to tie in to the community through the athletics here. Florence & White has not only helped us, they've helped with the basketball program with the sponsorship of our video board this year. They do a lot of stuff through football. They're one of our anchors here in the community right now."

White also added, "We like partnering up with the high school, with Danny, we're proud of all the kids, and the community for coming out and helping out."
