On Friday night Machine Pitch for the 12-year-old championship came to an end when the Kirby Farms Chicks defeated the Four Season Sharks. The Chicks slipped past the Sharks winning a close 9-8 match-up
In the top of the first, the Sharks hauled in two runs to start the game. Joni Robinson brought in one run with a double. Emme Colwell brought in the other run when she doubled into left field.
In the bottom of the first, the Chicks fired back and took the lead, scoring five runs, led by Keagan Patton who blasted out a three-run homerun.
In the second inning, each team’s defense was nearly perfect, as each team forced the other into a three-and-out.
In the top of the third, the defense for the Chicks was still hot and again forced the Sharks into a three-and-out.
In the bottom of the third, the Chicks picked things back up, and scored three runs. Abbi Taylor drove a ball into left field good for a double and two RBIs. Sarette Arando brought Taylor into score with a single up the alley.
In the top of the fourth, the Sharks would battle back, burning the Chicks for three runs. Emme Colwell led the way with three-run triple into left field.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Chicks added two runs to their total with Sarah Anne Colwell and A. Taylor each bringing in a run to score.
In the top of the fifth, the Sharks looked to make a comeback and looked poised to do so, but fell short just one run.
Joni Robinson gave the Sharks a huge boost when she knocked one out of the park for a two-run homer. Though Robinson had the team fired up, they would only manage one more run and the game ended with a ground-out to first base.
Machine Pitch for 9-year-old championship also took place Friday night as the Retirement Strategies Hawks took on the Paul Cantrell Dynamite Divas. The Hawks defeated the Divas 12-4.
In the top of the first, the Hawks came out swinging and put up three runs before the Divas could get a single out. Kenlee Taylor slapped out a triple that brought in two runs. Keirstine Robinson knocked in an RBI with a single to shallow right field.
In the bottom of the first, the Hawks only allowed two singles through the inning and held their opponent to zero.
In the top of the second, the Hawks were now the ones who were shut down and could not break past the defense of the Divas. In the bottom of the second, it was a three-and-out for the Divas.
In the top of the third, the Hawks got back on track and added two runs to their total. Mackenzie Sprague and Tori Summers accounted for the team’s RBIs with a single and a double. In the bottom of the third the struggles for the Divas continued as they were hit with another three-and-out.
In the top of the fourth, the only player to get a hit for the Hawks was Xharia Lyons with a single down the third baseline.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Divas were finally able to get some offense going with two much-needed runs, starting with Caitlin Bennett who slapped out a double that brought in Emma Johnson to score. Later in the inning, Bennett scored when Alexis Cudney ripped the ball down the first baseline.
In the top of the fifth, the Hawks exploded and overtook the Divas blasting them for seven runs. Leading the charge was K. Robinson, who drove in three runs with a triple.
In the bottom of the fifth, two runs would be all that the Divas could muster up before the Hawks snagged the third and final out of the game and were crowned 9-year-old champions.
