Lady Saints thriller in Watertown

The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints had a short schedule last week, playing only one game on the road in Watertown. The match would end in a thrilling overtime finish, with both teams playing to win.

 

The Purple Tigers took the lead in the first period, but the Lady Saints weren’t far behind. Watertown scored 10 points, while DMS had eight. Madison Parsley had a two and three-pointer, with other points coming from the free-throw line.

 

It was the Lady Saints that came out ahead going into halftime, scoring 10 points, while holding Watertown to only three. Macey Hedge had a two and three-pointer, while Mya Ruch had a three-pointer of her own. Joni Robinson also had a two-point shot. DeKalb took the lead, 18-13.

 

DMS kept up the pressure in the third period, scoring five points to Watertown’s four. Julia Curtis was the top scorer for the Lady Saints, getting two two-point baskets. DMS held a 23-17 lead.

 

The Lady Saints scored seven points in the fourth, including a three-pointer by Hedge, and a two-pointer by Sophie Cripps. Watertown would not give up however, and scored 13 before the end of regulation, tying the score 30 all and sending the game into overtime.

 

The game would go into two overtime periods, with both teams battling. It would be Watertown that would eventually edge by DeKalb, taking a 43-41 win in OT.

 

Hedge was two for seven on free throws, while Curtis was two for six. Abbi Taylor was two for four, Robinson two for two, and Parsley was zero for one.
