The DeKalb County High School Tigers Soccer Team opened their season last week at home, playing a tough team from Siegel. The boys held their own through much of the game, but slowly fell behind as the match wore on.
The game, played on Mar. 11, looked as if it might get out of hand for the Tigers after Siegel scored the first goal of the match in the first minute of play, but DeKalb settled in, playing some hard defense and challenging the visitors.
Brandon Leiser put the Tigers on the board with an assist from Micah Merriman, 27 minutes into the game. The tie would not last long however, when Siegel struck again, and then again.
Leiser scored once again 51 minutes into the game, but it wasn’t enough. Seigel would score twice more in the game, coming away with a 5-2 win in the first game of the season.
DeKalb’s goalkeeper, Skylar Pease, had 15 saves in the game.
On Mar. 13, the Tigers were again at home, this time facing off with Cumberland County in a game that would have a much different outcome.
Leiser struck first in the game, getting a goal for the Tigers nine minutes into the game with an assist from Merriman. DeKalb would keep the lead until 27 minutes into the game, when Cumberland tied with a goal of their own.
Leiser found the back of the net again only seven minutes later, regaining the lead for the Tigers, a lead they would not let go of.
Miguel Rodriguez came away with a goal 53 minutes into the game, with an assist by Merriman. Eli Lomas would get in on the action with only six minutes left to play, again with an assist by Merriman.
The Tigers would get their first win of the year, getting a victory over Cumberland, 4-1. Pease had three saves in the game.
