Smithville police have charged a 30-year-old local man with felony possession of a firearm and charged the man and his wife with possession of a Schedule II drug for resale after domestic call on Aug. 26.
Michael George Rowland and Jasmin Renae Rowland, 22, were taken into custody after police responded to a call of a possible physical domestic assault and made contact with the Rowlands. The man was reportedly asked to step outside the residence to speak with an officer, and a safety pat down alerted the officer to a hand gun on his person.
The officer found an unloaded .38 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun. Michael Rowland reportedly removed four live rounds and one spent round from his pocket and gave them to the officer as well.
Police said other officers inside the residence speaking with Jasmin Rowland asked if they could look around, and after getting consent noticed a small box wrapped in duct tape lying on the kitchen floor. Upon pulling the tape back the officer noticed that it was a Marlboro cigarette box with a plastic bag inside.
The plastic bag contained a crystal-like substance weighing approximately 1.6 ounces that tested positive for Methamphetamine. Also on the living room floor were two more handguns. Rowland is a convicted felon out of Ohio.
Bond for Michael Rowland: $20,000. Jasmin Rowland: $10,000 Court date for both is Sept. 15.
City police arrested three people after an alleged shoplifting spree at Walmart on Aug. 16.
Wayne Lattimore, 34, Gerald Kier, 43, and Brenda Lattimore, 29, were charged with theft over $1000 in the incident. The three reportedly entered Walmart around 1 a.m. and were allegedly recorded on surveillance cameras taking an estimated $3,794.12 in merchandise. The individuals were arrested and found to be in possession of several stolen items taken from Walmart.
Bond was set at $ 5,000 each, and the three will Bond: 5,000.00 each GS: 8/25/16
James Walter Stone, 59, was arrested for DUI and cited for simple possession on Aug. 17.
Stone was allegedly found passed out in his vehicle with it running and in drive at Hardees. Upon approaching the vehicle, police reportedly saw a syringe in plain sight.
Police said that Stone was asked to perform sobriety tasks to ensure he was not intoxicated, to which he agreed and performed poorly. Upon Stone's arrest, a white pill bottle with no markings was found in the vehicle with a round yellow pill believed to be Suboxone inside the bottle.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on Sept. 6.
David Matthew Hill, 33, was cited for theft of property on Aug. 18 after he was reportedly seen on camera concealing merchandise then exiting a local store.
Andrew A. Dillon, 32, was arrested for domestic assault on Aug. 29.
Police responded to a possible domestic, and upon arrival found the victim outside on the porch crying and grabbing her arms in pain. An investigation determined that Dillon assaulted the victim by striking her on or about the area of her face and upper body.
Bruising was visible, and the woman sought treatment for her injuries at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. Dillon was reportedly covered with scratches made by the victim in an effort to get away from him. It was determined that Dillon was the primary aggressor and he was arrested without incident.
His bond was set at $30,000, and he will appear in court on Sept. 15.
Ashley M Singleton, 25, was arrested for criminal trespass on Aug. 29.
Police reportedly received a call of a possible shoplifter at Wal-Mart. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with Singleton. After interviewing her the officer found that she didn't possess any items from the store, but that she did have two previous trespass warnings from Wal-Mart in Coffee and Warren Counties.
Her bond was set at $2,500, and she will appear in court on Sept. 15.
Veronica Lucille St. Hilaire, 32, was arrested for disorderly conduct on Aug. 30.
According to police, at approximately 12:45 a.m. St Hilarie was at a residence on Dry Creek Rd and was advised multiple times to return to her residence. She allegedly would not, and continued to yell and use profane language toward another person at the scene. She was located in a residential area where her actions could be heard by others in the immediate vicinity.
Her bond was set at $1,500, and she will appear in court on Sept. 15.
