A man who forced another vehicle off the road and into a convenience store has been charged with felony assault.
The man, Marcos Antonio Nandez, 27, of Smith Road is charged with aggravated assault, driving on a suspended license and failure to give immediate notice of an accident. The aggravated assault count is a Class C felony punishable by three to six years in prison.
Police responded to Larry’s Discount Grocery where they found a large section of the store’s glass broken out. They also found pieces of debris that a vehicle had left behind after it struck the storefront. They then tracked the vehicle by following a trail of fluid that had leaked from the damaged car, leading them to a residence on South Mountain Street.
Officers spoke with the resident there who told them Nandez had rammed his car into her vehicle, causing her to veer off the road and slam into the store. Police noted injuries to the woman’s arm.
A further investigation confirmed the woman’s story and Nundez was arrested. He has a May 10 hearing date and is being held under $57,000 bond.
