A 33-year-old Carthage man has been taken into custody by the sheriff’s department after he allegedly broke into a Snow Hill Road residence and assaulted the occupant.

Ian Joseph Prince has been charged with aggravated criminal trespassing and assault. According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, a detective was called to the home on Oct. 8 to check out possible domestic violence.

The detective spoke with Prince, who was found standing outside the home. Prince allegedly admitted to having kicked in the back door and trying to remove an air conditioner from a window to gain entry to the house. The back door was reportedly found on the ground.

Prince allegedly initiated a physical altercation with the homeowner once he gained entry to the home.

His bond was set at $3,000, and he will appear in court on Oct. 27.

Meanwhile, Amy Jeanette Lawson, 39 has been charged with failure to appear, theft of property under $500, and fraudulent use of a credit card.

The sheriff said Lawson stole a wallet on Aug. 27 containing several items, including a driver license, social security card, a Regions bank debit card, a Discover credit card, Buckle credit card, Victoria Secret credit card, and $100 in cash. She reportedly used the Regions Bank debit card for $25.02 at the Liberty Stop N Buy.

Ray said that a deputy responding to the area of Old Snow Hill Road tom check out reports of a vehicle that had been trespassing on private property but had left the scene. The officer spotted the described vehicle sitting partly in the roadway on Old Snow Hill Road.

He found the driver to be Ellis, who allegedly had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on her person, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. She reportedly submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks. The sheriff said the woman agreed, but then refused, to submit to a blood test.

Her bond was set at $1,500, and she will appear in court on Oct. 27.
